The Diarora Progressive Movement undertakes to deliver a just, fair, and prosperous South Africa for all. We strongly believe in the promotion of democracy, civil liberties, human rights, equality, and justice for all South Africans. Our core values are accountability, transparency, integrity, and embracing Ubuntu. In furthering our objectives, we shall collaborate, cooperate, and demonstrate solidarity with all progressive forces in South Africa, the African Continent, and the Diaspora. Diarora is a protest movement guided by Section 17 of the Constitution, which states, "Everyone has the right, peacefully and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions." Diarora subscribes to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, acknowledging the injustices of the past and recognizing that South Africa belongs to all who live in it.

united in our diversity. Diarora understands that the Constitution allows for amendments as per Section 74(2). DIARORA is an anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist Movement. We are a Non-Profit Organisation that seeks to serve the needs and concerns of the marginalized, poor, landless, economically and systematically excluded people of South Africa who are black in general and African in particular. While doing so, we respect the rights of the minority, as the Constitution protects the rights of all who live in South Africa. Diarora, in this regard, identifies as a lobby group organisation. DIARORA is a non-racial, non-sexist organisation. Diarora does not discriminate by religion, tribe, or gender. Diarora is a Progressive Movement that welcomes all to join and be members irrespective of anyone’s political affiliation. Diarora seeks to bring together all progressive forces under one umbrella to speak with one voice and to ultimately achieve an equal, just, and prosperous South Africa.

THE POWERS OF THE ORGANISATION

The Board shall carry out the powers on behalf of the organisation and manage its affairs in accordance with the resolutions of the members taken from time to time at General Meetings

The Board is responsible for making decisions and acting on them to achieve the objectives of the organisation, as stated in Section 5 of this Constitution. These decisions must align with the members' resolutions and the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

If deemed necessary, the Board may set up one or more sub-committees to expedite work or conduct inquiries.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS (AGM)

All stakeholders are required to attend the AGM.

The AGM must be held once a year, towards the end of the organisation’s financial year.

The purpose of an AGM is to:

  • Report back to stakeholders on the achievements and work of the organisation over the year.
  • Make any necessary changes to the Constitution.
  • Enable members to decide on the policies of the organisation.
  • SPECIAL GENERAL MEETINGS

    A Special General Meeting may be called when:

  • The Board of Governance deems it necessary.
  • At least one-third of the members request it in writing, stating the reasons for their request.
  • Notice of a Special General Meeting must be given to all members at least 21 days before the meeting, along with an agenda stating the issues to be discussed.
  • Only the matters listed on the agenda may be discussed at the Special General Meeting.
  • FINANCES AND REPORTS

  • The Treasurer-General shall manage the organisation’s finances and keep accurate records of all transactions.
  • The financial year of the organisation shall be determined by the Board of Governance.
  • Financial statements shall be prepared annually and audited, if necessary, to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • A financial report shall be presented at the AGM for approval by the members.
